About Us

Hey lovers! Thank you so much for stopping by – we wanted to utilize this space on our blog to share more about us as individuals, how our love for travel started and grew & of course why we decided to create My Meraki Travel.

Emma is a 27 year old Aussie lover & daughter who grew up on the little island of Tasmania, Australia and is the primary content creator at MMT. She utilises this space to support her growth & current studies in Travel Journalism. Emma’s career background is in both beauty & finance, but she has had a passion for writing & expressing ideas since she could hold a pen. Combining this passion with her love of  travel and creating itineraries – My Meraki Travel was born. Emma’s love for travel began when she spontaneously hopped on a plane with two mates at barely 18 years old to Bali, Indonesia. Being from such a tiny part of the world, the culture shock was a lot to comprehend, but little did she know this culture shock was about to become the most addictive constant in her life and would change the perspective of her little teenage world indefinitely.

Fast forward 9 years and Emma has now visited 20 countries, 4 continents and over 80 cities and is so passionate about helping others to see the world. Very rarely will Emma venture out the front door without pen and paper at the ready, that is her favourite thing about travel – the ability it has to wake you up to the world around you, to appreciate your surroundings so much so, you feel compelled to write them down to savor the moments.

Reece is a 28 year old Aussie bloke and is probably the most chilled out person you will ever meet in your life. He is the other half of My Meraki Travel and has a background in Tiling in the construction industry. After coming home from a trip to the U.S in 2017, he decided to start his own tiling business that he and Emma manage from home for about 80% of the year when they aren’t traveling. His love for travel started after he met Emma in 2013 at a bar in their home town, Launceston – it didn’t take long before they started planning their first getaway to Thailand together & needless to say, he caught the travel bug in a big way – they have been planning and travelling together ever since. Reece’s favourite thing about travel is the overwhelming feeling of flying into a brand new city & he is crazy about the food cultures, always trying to recreate street food from around the globe in the kitchen.

The beauty of travelling, is that it is one of those joys in life that is 100% flexible, there is genuinely no right or wrong way to do it, only your way. We have enjoyed ticking things off our bucket lists, snapping photos for the fam and getting lost in new places (not always intentionally) along the way, but it wasn’t until our travels to Indonesia together in our mid 20’s that we realized the huge impact we as travelers have on the communities we visit and how important it is to ensure the footprints we leave are positive ones. So, together we decided to create our own little piece of the internet to share and develop this message.

We live a balanced life between exploring the world and working in our hometown/binge watching netflix in our spare time and genuinely need that balance. We love camping on the beach, attempting to grow veggies & anything DIY but our true passion is being on the road, waking up in new cities and planning our adventures together. Our absolute number one goal is to inspire others to create an affordable & extraordinary travel/home life balance they can fall in love with.

Travelling is so exhilarating, it helps us grow in ways we cannot possibly recognize until we bite the bullet and jump on that plane, it teaches us so many things about life we simply cannot learn from sitting in a classroom. Whether it’s a day trip to explore your own backyard or an around the world adventure- the world is out there waiting to be explored and it is ever changing- get those itchy feet out there, I promise you won’t regret it.
